Please post success or failure (and which vehicle) with RC5 EC5 ECUs here

Note that some of the later MGFs such as LE500 appear to have AB Autoliv

Works on my '97 MPi Mini.

Had two error codes 260D and 260E, cleared them, and then they were gone.

No idea what the error codes are telling me.

Worked on my sons Rover 200 1998 1.4 8v, SRS light not on, showed these 3 codes, have not cleared them yet.

2524 2d13 252c all as unknown error codes.
And when i pressed the information button got
Bar code 03026014

Will connect again next time and clear the codes.

Had these the first time I checked, cleared them and had no repeat.

I put the scanner on my car today and the only error I could find was: "2524 unknown error" :?
I cleared it and it stayed clear.

Worked again on my sons Rover 200 1998 1.4 8v,
SRS came on some months ago - but did not stay on all the time, got gradually worse.
Using Pscan identified that the rotary coupler was faulty, eventually replaced it with one off ebay (actually off an older car..) and is now ok. If we had taken the car to the local mg rover xpart dealer would have cost loads..as thay are 100 +vat per hour and they would not have fitted a used part... great tool.
after fitting the replacement went to connect pscan and found out that the laptop with the pscan software on was no longer working so have now installed it an an even older toshiba portege 3110ct that is a pent2 300. and have acquired a portege 3490 that is a p3 !!! Use these as they have small screens that are easier to use in the car.

£100 an hour must be Vospers then?

can the pscan do actuator testing?, i had to pay vospers to do a abs brake bleed as T4 was the only thing around that can do this?

thanks

Don't know about actuator testing - suggest ask Philip.
Got pscan particularly for the srs diagnostics. As have had problems in 3 MG/rovers.

Yep its Vospers, have been to the rover specialist in newton abbot for a couple of parts.
We have 2 Jeeps and the wifes one (which is newer) has been to Vospers a few times.
Will probably acquire another diagnostic tool to read the Jeep' s ABS etc.

Sadly the one in newton abbot said there base level t4 could not do abs bleeds, and when i paid the earth for them to look a a old 200vi they didnt have much of a clue with that, so really lost faith in them as well the pscan looks to be a great alternative to trusting money makers that dont have a clue.

I would have thought it would be a drivers airbag open circuit fault.

That´s the error I have "150c front airbag circuit driver high resistance" so maybe
the rotary coupler is bad.

Thank you :)

I am trying to diagnose an "always on" SRS light. I had independently changed the air bag and both seatbelt pretensioners and the problem does not go away. I have also re-soldered new underseat connectors too no avail.

I plugged in pscan and got barcode "000000" and a list of errors - all "unknown error" - I cleared the errors, cycled the ignition and one error came back and stays "1D13 unknown error" - would be nice to know what that indicates! I can't find any list of relevant error codes anywhere.

I am thinking I might have a broken rotary coupler ...

Cheers

Christopher

Just tried my new pscan on my MGF, it has had the SRS light on since I bought it. So far I have replaced the coupler, airbag, drivers seat and checked all the connetions. I only have the ECU and passenger seat to go.

Anyway the error code is 120Y. That reminds me of a 1970s Datsun but I don't know what it means.

I went through the whole lot - then changed the ECU with a used one - and BINGO!

Interestingly the part number of my ECU is pre the others quoted (July 1995) not sure it is even RC5 EC5 (it doesn't say so on the tin the way the "new" one does!?

If you want to lend me the old one I can use it to improve pscan.

Okay an update, I changed the ECU today as suggested by my friend above and Bingo! No more SRS light. Impressed as the ECU I used was for a single airbag MGF and mine has two.

Anyway if you get 120Y as a fault code just change the ECU.
