Well thats one alloy thats just scrap now!

Image

The road down to the estate where i work hasent been gritted so there was a lovely layer of show on the road this morning, that coupled with a slight down hill and a sharp 90 degree bend.

I wasent going very fast less than 20mph but the dam thing just understeered off and smacked the curb.

So its wheel change for me this lunch break ah well you live and learn

Thats what everyone says when they fail to drift on snow

How on earth did your tyre not blow with that big chunk taken out of that alloy.

Was out with my mate sunday night and he went round a corner and didnt see the curb, and his alloy rubbed on the curb causing a weak point and then popped a big hole in his tyre, with slight paint removable from the curb on his alloy.

Now this was a person whos slammed a Lupo on coilovers, and put a massive base box in his boot with no spare wheel at 11.20pm at night.

Wasnt happy

Luckly work was litteraly just up the road so i didnt have far to drive with it like that.

Typicaly i was gong to put one of the matching back wheels on the front to save having 1 steel wheel 1 alloy at the front to find out one of the nuts is rounded

I swear it was fine the other month, bloody typical

Amazingly enough i expected it to be flat when i came to change it but its still got loads of air left!
must be just about sealing.

I did similar a couple of weeks ago: ~10mph on a wide 90* curve on a residential street just around the corner from my dad's.

Carelessness on my part, attitude into the corner was lazy (grip approaching the corner had been much better than what was on the corner). The car ploughed straight on, got the handbrake on and the back end round but it was too late (and forgot the throttle), not enough room and hit the kerb almost perfectly side on.

Chunk out of the tyre (thankfully due for replacement) and gouged the wheel rim to hell and cracked the paint further in on the wheel.

Annoyed with myself mostly. If I'd have been messing about I could have gotten around that corner at twice the entry speed.

They will, quite rightly, say "it's your job to deal with the weather conditions".

Yes totally agree you need to cope with the weather conditions. But when you pay a fortune in council tax each year, you expect to be able to at least be able to leave you house safely. The roads and pavements have been terrible in the ice.

An idea I heard that I thought was quite a good idea. Give people the option of having rock salt or something delivered in the summer or something when the supplies of rock salt is high. This will also act as a reminder about the winery conditions. People can store them if they have the space for winter

Then people have the option of clearing there area, there selves when needed.

At higher revs than you can go :)
I think given the present conditions and the fact that there's people on the TV telling everyone not to use their cars unless absolutely necessary, the council cant really be held to blame if somebody slides on some ice.

Potholes, yeah... that's due to bad maintenance/neglegence. Frozen water falling from the sky and people driving on it... not really their fault.

I agree that the council have no control over nature. But they can help by not penny pinching.

I'll give you an example. We used to have at the end of our esate a collection store full of grit for people to use. That is not longer there. This was located at a section where there is only a slight incline to a give way section to the main road.

A couple of weeks ago, this froze and was like an ice rink. Could not stand on the road, let alone try and use a car on it. Though people needed to.

This meant that most people could not get up this slight incline. The people that got a little up it run the risk of sliding backwards into the car behind when losing grip.

The odd couple that got to the top ran the risk of overshooting the giveway sign into the main road.

The pavments was the same so risked slipping over. Know for old people that are about, this penny pinching is not on.

I've noticed this too. Near my parents there used to be a grit box next to a main road where a rather treacherous downhill-right-uphill-left snake is but has been removed now. During the fail weather before Christmas it was impassable.
