Hi,
I have registered today, and have a 1996 800 Vitesse sport hatchback. 54,000 miles, a real time warp car. I'm really pleased with it.
Iv'e had a ZT 260 / ZTT 190 / ZRs / ZSs / Rover 25 / 214 SE / Metro 114 / MG Maestro / MG Montego. I also used to work at MG Rover Longbridge, as an electrician / electrical foreman / production and maintenance manager. So I've quite an attachment to these old cars. Plus I was there at the end too.... Sad old day, but the writing was on the wall...

I wander if anyone can help out with locating some bright trim bumper strips for my 800? I've tried Rimmer bros, but no stock???

The kindest of regards.
Ian.

Sounds like you saw some sights

An old friend of mine Dave King, a Brummie in his 70s now used to work at Longbridge, worked his way up.

Told me some great stories

Once one bloke trying to half inch a pair of v8 heads disguised with an overcoat and about 20 mates, linked by a bit of rope round his neck, all of them by the security hut as the bloke passed out as he cut off the blood supply

One time when he had a brand new Austin Ambassador? Which he had to personally deliver to someone important, and he said the night before he was driving it around Birmingham somewhere under an underpass? With that he pulled the manual choke and he said the whole thing came away from the dash, wire and all and ended up in the back seat

Another time when he first started about all the strikes that used to go on over silly things

We used to stay after work for hours talking about Longbridge, had me in tears of laughter some of his tales :D

Ah the good times I guess?

Before he left Royal mail ( he was postie after ) he knew I had a keen interest and gave me a few things, one being a gold coin given to them something to do with the queen for a successful launch of something, maybe one of the earlier land rovers? I cant remember the story exactly, as it was some years back and he has bad parkinsons now bless him

He also gave me a small gold badge he was presented with when he moved into the parts side of BL/Rover for so many years of something.

This is all 70s/80s wish he had written a book

Sorry to waffle on but you have definitely come to the right place judging by your car history, something like mine

not sure but?

Could you use parts from here?

No idea if it's still active, but used to be a website something like mgroverpartsfinder. If it's still going pop the part number identified from Rimmer's in there, see if you have any joy.

EDIT - Hang on, what's his name do the MGB Sebring that posts on here has the 800 that will donate it's engine for his project. Will those parts be available from that shell ?

Those stories sound about right........... I've many myself. Als a collection of coins etc when we launched new models. I've also got the papers of administration that we had to red out to the workers on the days before, and the day it closed.

Thanks for your help gents.
Its very much appreciated.

I've been contacting the guys on Ebay, but with age they are not very good.

How do I contact Mark Burton?

Kind regards.
Ian.
