Only if you currently have an excess of power such that you can hit the redline in fifth gear. Otherwise you will probably end up with a reduced top speed.

I've been interested in it too - on my 420SDi, but I need it for more engine efficiency and lower revs on highway...

Normally you will change the final drive.
Which involes fitting the crownwheel and the output shaft (as the pinion is part of it)
Im wondering if a gear from the primary shaft could be put into the output shaft?
Otherwise it might be custom gears.
Perhaps someone else will be more clear

Are you bothered about all of the gears being higher?

Yes you can fit a higher final drive. It has been done but is a lot of work so most people won't go this route. (you'd not want to do this for a track car!)

It isn't a small amount of work!. Certain versions of the freelander have a higher final drive, so you can recover this from a freelander box and build yourself a slightly longer final drive. I think they have the "7" ratio set in the diesels but please check first! Whereas the L series cars have the "4" and "6" final drives.

I have a diesel 5th gear in my PG1, the rest of the gears are a mix from different boxes to get an even spread as close to the 5th as possible but it is still a larger than normal drop in rpm going from 4th to 5th but I can use it for cruising at 50mph +, it is great at 70mph. When the car was mapped it was getting over 170 on the rolling road.
Originally built the gearbox for top speed but never got chance to try it out.
