Ok guys so I have a spare engine from a 420d. My current car, a 420di has a loud tapping. At first I thought it was the tappets, but it seems to be coming from the bottom end. Rather than strip it and figure out the problem and try to replace parts, I was wondering if I could just put the block from the 420d into the 420di and just transfer things over such as the fuel pump, air con etc. All I want to do is swap the engine blocks. Is there anything that would stop that from working? It's my understanding that the flywheel may be different, as apparently it is on the intercooled models. Would the gearbox fit the non-intercooled engine block ok? As far as I was aware the blocks and internals were exactly the same.
