Looking at making myself a rear upper strut brace

Something like this, though it will probably be round tube across the middle, or I could even use 25mm box section rather than the flatter type on this picture ive borrowed. The ends would be the same design though, and it would use the original nuts on the struts to secure it.

Image

I will be offering these in mild steel and possibly stainless. Interest dependant

Stainless = £40 posted

Updates at the weekend when I begin fabrication

Any interest post below or pm me

The top of the damper shaft (the bit you're proposing to clamp to with your design) is bushed into the top mount and moves around quite a bit, even with the polybushes. I wouldn't use the damper shaft top mount nut to clamp your brace to.

thanks ttrw. ill look over the weekend and see what i can do 8)

doesnt the civic use the same design though along with hundreds of other cars with no ill reported effects

I may also be looking at a brace that goes between the two strut towers, which can then be welded into place, or bolted using a sandwich plate.

Unless ttrw you have more reasons for me not to.....

I agree with ttrw2, if you trying to stop chassis flex, attaching to the damper tennon is not the best way to do it. You really need to use the 2 top mount mounting studs.

Best way is to bolt to the two mounting points for the shocks themselves.

The brace up there is still allowed to pivot with the top of the shocks.

Hundreds of sh1t products are sold mate, doesnt mean because they dont get bad reports they are good , just means the chavs are happy with stuff that looks bling ?

In the shop as we speak.

In the process of making a s/s brace from box section.

Looks 8) , and using shock mounting point as opposed to top of strut :P

To fit this you would only need to make a small " cross " incision, berger had already cut out the carpet for adjustment of the konis. Normally you wouldnt see the bolts etc! As you can see the brace has been rotated so the box section is now more trick looking as a diamond.

8)

would normally look something like this, need new boot trim

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Decided to only do these in stainless, as its easier, and the more I can get to commit the cheaper I can do them due to my steel cost per length

so......

Is there any reason why you've gone for box section over round tube?

can you not buy them mate?

I can look into one yes

and as an off from this. If people want one that you can weld/bolt between the towers I can do these too.

Also if you didnt want it in a diamond style I can do it flat , just easier if i can do a few the same

In fact anything within reason.

Just took advice from my dad, who owns the engineering company, he kinda knows best

Hey matt, it sits about 1 1/2" behind the rear seat, so you lose virtually no room.
