I made them in my garage myself from smelted-down Rover 420 GSi Turbos and 800 Tickfords that I've been collecting over the years.

Seriously. Those who have a pair in their hands - what do you think?

Mine are spot on

Hope the 420 turbo I melted down last year helped

What's next anyway?
Rear camber adjusters...?

Modded some shocks. 20 minutes to do including cleaning them up.

Before, after

Image

Put in vice. Then bend the forks out. Do not put shock tube in vice as will damage it.

Image
Image

Bend both of them out.

Get something hard around 50mm wide and bend the forks back.

Image

Simples.

Image

I've had them on the car and all is good. No knocking or banging and a better job as the bush is now bigger then the stock rover one, so will last longer and a better ride :)

right lads Im a tad confused. I've taken 2.5mm from each half of the bush and 5mm from the tube... but it still won't fit... have i missed something?

there's been that many different methods bouncing about on here i think i might have missed the right one

What part of the bush did you take the 5mm off? Ive just knocked the bushes out mines and I think im going to go for 10mm of the centre tube, 5mm off each of the narrow parts of the bush and 5mm off the casting of the arm so theres still the thick part between the arm and shock if you see what i mean :)

In fact just read your post again Ross, sounds like youve taken overall width down to 45mm now? You'll need to take another 5mm off centre pin and bushes if Im reading it right?

You need to take another 5mm off the tube, and 2.5mm off both ends of the 2 bushes, so you need to take another 2.5mm off the other ends of the bushes

right i took mine up to andys the machinists .

and i may of left my OE one at home doh . to compare which he needs to take measurements from

having had a look now i have actually got a set .

first problem . skunks are dead straight ( well actually they arnt they have a slight and i mean a slight bend in them well james set does anyway . ( put this down to not so good machining )

Image

second problem related to the first

the oe ones are defo off set and have a kink in the shock mount .

Image

now i have posted my OE up to andys so he can measure and give specs of what the difference is .

personally i feel i may have just bought a very expensive set of paper weights. but ill see what the machinist says when he compares against the OE One.

solution to make them fit remove the bush . take some off the inner bush and machine the face on both sides of the arm down . their is enuf meat their so shouldn't be a issue.

then will be able to just push the oe bush it came with back in .

i will let you know and post the drawings up at weekend when he does them . sorry for the delay.

As i said all depends on the drawings that come back and how much they will screw up the rear end of the car to weather or not i wish to risk running my rear tyres or not lol .

i may fit some cheapys if i do fit them and see what they where like after 5 k miles.

.

The kinked section is no problem, you just turn the shock lower fork to fit the new arm, I can't see from the pics if the inner and outer end of the original arms are offset from each other or not.

Just need to wait and see if the middle is in the same place relative to the ends. Look forward to seeing the results of the measurements.

If you draw a stringline between the two end bushes the centre of the middle one is still on the same line so all you need to do is rotate the bottom shock mount to fit.

I was worried about this at first but soon worked out that there shouldn't be an issue.

The one on the left is how it should look when finished, remeber you also need to take the raised alloy ridge down 2.5mm on both faces, the right hand one is marked out ready.

right have comfirmed with the machinist that bolt holes are in the same place after i posted up my oe set . :D thank god.

now he will be getting the drawings up shortly . and he will be getting a price for moddiing arms etc .

this will involve removing metal from the arm and taking the bush down on the inside of the bush .

so this will be a go ahead . now :D

the more people wanting the mod the cheaper it will be per unit.

al those interested list ur name . and will pass on details of where to send etc

I assume we will get some damage / scratches to the arms with this procedure?

Are mine the trial set or is it yours Martin?

Best to see a finished and tested set anyway before offering the service to everyone else.

Why do we need drawings for anyway?

I'll be doing this at my dads machine shop

If successful I'll let people know and do it for postage and a few beer tokens

I mummified mines in masking tape before pressing the bush out and it left it unmarked, id imagine doing the same would be sufficient on the faces where its being clamped for machining.
