Hi all,
I'm sure you all remember the flip key group buy for the MG keys, well I'm back!

For all the guys who wanted Lucas key fobs I have some news.
I have been in talks with the factory for a few months about direct replacement cases for the Lucas fobs.

I have good news and bad.

Good news is as of the end of next week (or there abouts) I will be able to get a direct replacement case for the Lucas fobs (the 2 button square black ones).

The bad news is, they will be again supplied with the wrong blades but luckily I have the blades for both types, the ones found on cars such as the MGTF and I have a small number in stock of the other blade type as found on the 200/400/ZS etc.

Photos of the blade types can be put up on request.

The second bit of bad news, to have these made with the rover logo engraved like the MG cases would have made the cost around £50 each so, I had to agree to them putting the landrover logo on them instead purely because the landrover uses the same 2 button square fob so more could be sold that way.
Not something I am overly happy with but to keep the cost at £20 per unit I had to go for that option.

Please note that if you put your name down you will need to pay a 50% deposit when I order the cases and the other 50% when I am ready to post them.

Photos of the case are below but it is a direct replacement for the Lucas fob, maybe the logo can be "removed" it all depends how it is moulded, until I get one in my hands to check over I can't say with any certainty.

Here is a photo of the front that I've cleaned up, quality of the picture isn't great, sorry.

Here is one showing a Lucas board sitting inside:

And here is one with the board removed:
Image

As said earlier, this had just come out of the mould when the photos were taken so ignore the imperfections etc, they will be fixed before production begins.

You can also clearly see the land rover logo too as I mentioned earlier. I think it may be removable somehow, if I can find an easy way to do that I will do it before I sell them :)

What do we think?

If possible, I would like to make a list as we did before, this is also on other sites so I will merge lists together my end to see what progress is like.

I would guess and I mean guess, that it would be probably 3 weeks or so until I can get them here with me ready to sell on so plenty of time to get some names together.

Actually, here is the photo of the key blades, if you could make a list below like this it would be great.

1. Bobbybrown x1 (left blade)
2&3. Someone else x2 (1 left blade 1 right blade)

Please remember, you are looking at the METAL part of the keys, the plastic head is irrelevant weather it's square or hexagonal or triangle or whatever haha.

Here is the key blade photo:
Image

Cheers all.
Dan

You don't swap the blades over. You take the flip case to a key cutters with your original key and they cut the new blade.

Been told it should be simple to remove the logo on these so I will do it before they are sold.

To get this off the ground, we need to get 25 interested people who are all willing to pay a 50% deposit when I'm ready to order and the remaining 50% when I'm ready to post.

If anyone knows anywhere else I can advertise these then please let me know, the quicker we get the numbers up the better.

On all of them.
Tricky with .org as I'm just tailing off the group buy for the MG fobs so too many threads over there will get confusing.

Ill stick something on the others.

6 or 7 mate, starting off slow but it usually does.

Posted about it on some other forums half hour ago so hoping that drums up some interest.

Had some more news about these from the factory this morning.

Good and bad news again I'm afraid.

They are ready for me to buy, however this model has no screws. Once the circuit board has been fitted and a new battery, the case has to be glued together.

Not quite sure why it's like this but I do know one thing, it will put the majority of people off wanting one so if we do continue with a group buy it may be a long one.

What are the thoughts on this?
Is it worth me continuing with this flip key?

It is the only direct replacement Lucas flip key in the world.

Cheers
Dan

Where would the glue have to be applied?!

Was the first design they sent to you have screw fitments, of so why have they changed it?!

The issue of screws never came up until now, I assumed it would be the same as other cases.

I have ordered a couple so I can see for myself and maybe, find a way to make it all work for everyone.

I've put a lot of work in to this and don't really fancy just leaving it.

My couple should arrive around the end of the week.

Yeah it seems you have put alot of thought and time into it and would be a shame to just drop it.

Plus people are liking the idea of a modern type key/fob etc....

Nice one mate.

I've put it all on hold until ive reviewed them anyway.

I won't sell something that I'm not 100% confident in.

I have some ideas how we can avoid the glue, depends what I can do when they arrive, ill keep you posted.

good,

I am interested in purchasing a key blade and the right of those to my car, I was wondering if sending to Portugal and payment and type of payment does.

I await a response from you, as soon as possible.

Right they are here.

They are a little tricky to put together and do indeed require glue to seal the case.

The circuit board is also a small issue, a tiny bit of plastic around the edge of the case needs to be cut away so the board fits in properly but that's just a pinch with a pair of pliers so not a problem really.

The buttons work well however in my tests if you push the buttons hard on the edges they do fall in to the case. This could well be because I haven't glued it together and I just put a cable tie around it to hold it while I was testing and it wasn't closed as tightly as it should be.

I need to double check weather the key blades will fit in the case or not as it looks like it will be a tight fit but I may have a way around that.

I think the logo could be removed easily enough and I will look at trying to modify them so the can be screwed together rather than glued.

If it can be done I will order more and start to sell them but obviously I won't sell something I am not 100% confident in as the trouble only comes back on me.

Cheers
Dan

Well, I performed the small modification needed today and fitted a PCB to the case, put a small dot of glue at the top and bottom and one or two on each side.

I glued it in this way as it then gives just enough room to get a small screwdriver in to "pop" it apart and break the glue should you wish to open it back up.

I just used normal household super glue suitable for use on plastic and rubber etc.

So far I've simulated dropping it a bunch of times (by throwing it against the wall lol) and its still solid, also let my 2 year old play with the case for an hour or so and she couldn't destroy it either.
Here are a couple of photos of the case all together and glued.
please note, the landrover logo will not be there on the cases you receive, unless you want it to be

Image
Image
Image

So, with that said...
I will perform the small modifications and send everything needed to get it working with every case, but I will need to do it as a group buy if possible.

I would like anyone interested to add your name below in the following way:

1. Bobbybrown x2 (right blade)
2. Someone else x1 (left blade)
3. PersonC x 2 (left and right blade

As you can see that will make it very easy for me to keep track.

When we have around 25 people interested I will collect 50% deposits as before and get them ordered.

The total cost is £20 per case (same as the MG cases)
This includes the case, key blade and postage.

How does that sound?

If anyone has any queries about this, PLEASE send them to me in a PM, lets keep the thread clean please guys

Many thanks
Dan
